What DLT registration actually is — and what it is not
DLT is the operator-run registration layer every Indian A2P SMS sender must clear before a single message is delivered. Here is what gets registered, and where we fit in.
Under TRAI's Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR), every business that sends commercial SMS in India has to be registered on a Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) platform operated by the telecom operators. Messages from an unregistered entity, or with an unregistered header or template, are rejected by the operator before they reach a handset.
Three things get registered, in this order:
- Entity — your business, verified against your PAN, GST and address proof. You receive an Entity ID.
- Header (Sender ID) — the 6-character alphabetic ID that appears as the sender, tied to a message category (transactional, service-implicit, service-explicit or promotional).
- Content template — the exact text of every message you intend to send, with variable fields marked. Operator scrubbing compares each outgoing message against the approved template.
A point worth being blunt about: we are not a DLT platform operator. The DLT platforms are run by the telecom operators themselves. What we do is act as your registered telemarketer and complete the registration work on your behalf — preparing the paperwork, submitting it, chasing approvals, and linking your entity to our telemarketer account so your traffic can flow.
